MILLS REEF STARS UNDER THE STARS 2011
HEADLINE ACT ANNOUNCED
The annual Auckland Anniversary Weekend concert event at Mills Reef Winery, “Stars Under The Stars”, has taken a major step up, with the announcement today, that UK supergroup THE HOLLIES will be the headline act next January.
Not many 1960’s musicians are still recording, let alone touring with a new album, but then THE HOLLIES are no average band. With more hits than The Beatles in the 60’s and 70’s, THE HOLLIES were recently inducted into the American Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame.
The band has made a number of personnel changes over the years, but two of the originals, guitarist and vocalist Tony Hicks (1962) and drummer Bobby Elliott (1963) still help provide those trademark harmonies with the other four, Peter Howarth (2004), Ray Stiles (1986), Steve Lauri (2004) and Ian Parker (1991).
Concert goers will be treated to the best HOLLIES anthems “The Air that I Breathe”, and “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother”, along with the massive hits “Bus Stop”, “Carrie Anne”, “Long Cool Woman”, “Jennifer Eccles” “On a Carousel” and many others, as well as including songs from their later albums.
Concert promoter, Craig Wilson, says it’s tremendously exciting to be able to attract a band of this calibre and it’s a testament to the event itself that bands like THE HOLLIES want to play there. They last played in NZ at The Mission concert in Hawkes Bay about 10 years ago, where over 22,000 people attended. Mr Wilson says that given there will only be about 8000 tickets available over two nights for the Mills Reef event, he’s expecting a quick sellout when they go on sale later in the year.
An announcement about when tickets will go on sale is expected to be made in August.
